INNOVATION CENTRE OF INSTITUTE OF MACROMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic

Contemporary biomaterial and biomedical research is aimed at creating complex polymeric systems that actively participate in interactions with the biological environment, have a positive effect on the reaction of the surrounding tissue cells, or controllably release biologically active substances (e.g. therapeutic substances or genes) into target tissues. Such contemporary systems open new possibilities in the therapy of serious diseases (especially tumorous or degenerative), regeneration medicine, tissue replacement, and also new methods in medical diagnostics.

°1 aktual the project content

A thorough knowledge of relations and interactions between synthetic materials and components of biological systems on an elementary (molecular) level is a crucial prerequisite for the further progress in this area. The main goals of our innovation centre are: extending the application of polymers and advanced macromolecular systems in newly developed medical, diagnostic and/or biotechnological preparations and methods, developing special-purpose polymers that may be used in medicine and biotechnologies, and – last not least – educating and training future scientists and R&D specialists in these promising fields.

The creation of the centre was co-financed from the European Regional Development Fund through the Operational Programme Prague – Competitiveness. Thanks to this aid and effort of numerous employees of the Institute, the objective was successfully attained and the centre was completed and launched on 30 November 2013.
