Deformation Responses of Hydrogels. Standard vs. Micromechanical Measurements, What We Can Learn from Their Comparison

Hydrogels, due to their soft nature, can deform substantially under very small stresses. This can complicate the determination of their mechanical parameters because of hindered sample handling and difficult fixation in measuring geometry. Therefore, the indentation mode of stress-strain measurement can offer a viable way to the gel parameters. The possibilities and limits of the indentation measurement will be discussed in the lecture.
