Ionic liquids (ILs) have interesting physical and chemical properties, such as negligible vapor pressure, high thermal stability, low viscosity, and low melting point. These properties make them perfect candidates as additives, solvents, or catalysts for a large number of polymerization reactions such as ring-opening polymerization. This study highlights the various ILs usage, for example, in epoxy curing with functional compounds or CO2 adsorption and its addition to valuable polymeric compounds. Consequently, this study intends to investigate the role of IL in different aspects, proving their versatility in the synthesis of new polymeric materials, allowing a new and more green approach.
