60 years of the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry

Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry was fouded in 1959 by Professor Otto Wichterle.  He was not only the founder of the Institute and also it´s first director but most of all the inventor of  a centrifugal casting production of soft contact lenses.

Among other outstanding results of the IMC scientis belong  HemaGel - healing gel supporting healing of wounds, polymer particles in artificial joints, proceses of recycling polymers, research of conducting or photovoltaic and photoelectronic polymers, polymer membranes etc. The uniqueness of the IMC stems from the combined experience of the IMC scientists together with the concentration of a wide range of branches of polymer science in one place.
