Award for Dr. Petr Štěpánek
On Monday 9 September, the President of the CAS, Eva Zažímalová, awarded four outstanding scientists. Petr Štěpánek, PhD, DrSc. received the Jaroslav Heyrovský Honorary Medal for Merit in Chemical Sciences. The award is in appreciation of his long-term work and contribution in the field of physical chemistry, which has significantly enriched the scientific community.
Petr Štěpánek was the head of the department of Supramolecular Polymer Systems at the IMC for more than twenty years and achieved international reputation in the field of physical chemistry of polymer systems. He is the author of more than 250 scientific publications, including 4 monographs, and has presented over 220 contributions at international conferences. He is active on the editorial board of the European Polymer Journal, chaired the PE5 panel for ERC project evaluation and the C8 panel "Small angle scattering (ID02)" at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF).
During his career, he has coordinated a number of national and international projects, the success of which is confirmed by the "Success Story" label awarded to one of them by the European Commission. He was previously also awarded by the Learned Society of the Czech Republic for "Discovery work in the field of structure and dynamics of supramolecular systems" and with his team he received the Czech Academy of Sciences award for outstanding results in the study of "Supramolecular structures and self-assembling processes of polymers".
We congratulate Dr. Štěpánek and wish him many more successes in his work!
